Dual Purpose Handler, Format I

ACLEOTC pre-trains a suitable police dog. This dog will be trained to meet specifications for a police service dog and the specifications for a narcotics detection dog. The department then sends its officer through a six (6) to eight (8) week handler course. The course runs five (5) days per week. This allows for the handler to complete the course early if he has had prior canine experience. This course includes classroom and practical field work. Format I is inclusive of the purchase of the dog, pre-training, all instruction, use of equipment, textbooks, kenneling and board for the officer’s dog. The total cost of Format I , includes tuition and fees. In order to guarantee enrollment in this course ACLEOTC must receive a check for one-half of the price eight weeks prior to the first day of class. The remaining price will be due the first day of class.

Dual Purpose Handler, Format II

ACLEOTC pre-trains a Narcotics Detector dog for the department. The department then sends its officer through a four week, handler course. This course includes both classroom and practical field work. Tuition and fees for Format I, include all instruction, use of equipment, textbooks, purchasing of dog, kenneling and board for the officer’s dog. In order to guarantee enrollment in this course ACLEOTC must receive a signed contract from the department, accompanied by a check for one-half the contract price, eight weeks prior to the first day of class. The remaining contract price will be due the first day of class. Any department may sign-up for classes by phone, but will not be guaranteed the class until the contract and money are received.

ACLEOTC will conduct a Dual Purpose / Explosive Detector dog training program. This eight (8) week program will allow both the handler and dog to receive training as a team. This course includes both classroom and practical field work. Tuition and fees in Format III, include all instruction, use of equipment, textbooks, purchase of dog, kenneling and board of officer’s dog. In order to guarantee enrollment in this course ACLEOTC must receive a signed contract from the department accompanied by a check for one-half the contract price eight weeks prior to the first day of class. A department may send its own handler and dog both having received prior training from another source through a five (5) week handler course. The officer’s dog must also pass the ACLEOTC selection process. This course includes both classroom and practical field work. Tuition and fees for Format Ii, include all instruction, use of equipment, textbooks, kenneling and board of the officer’s dog. Session schedule is as Format I.

Police Service Dog Handling, Format III

ACLEOTC will conduct a basic police dog handling program for both the officer and dog. This program consists of eight (8) weeks, five (5) days per week. This program will allow the handler and dog to receive eight weeks of Police Service Dog Training. The officer’s dog must pass the ACLEOTC selection test. This course includes both classroom and practical field work. Tuition and fees for Format III, include instruction, use of equipment, textbooks, kenneling and board of officer’s dog.

Advanced Handler Course

This course is designed to thouroughly advance the skills of your K-9 teams. This course covers numerous areas of K-9 law enforcement, including, felony traffic stops, an introduction to assisting swat teams. Also covered is maneuvering with your K-9 through a live-fire course where the K-9 will be introduced to CS gas, flashbangs and dynamic entries. The K-9's will be trained to execute dynamic take downs of suspects, along with redirection of the K-9. We have also created a "picture training" program where we expose the K-9 to numerous scenarios that are intended to ensure that your K-9 will apprehend the suspect the very first time he is deployed, no matter what the suspect is doing when he is located. This course will make your K-9 unit more versatile and be able to be utilized in countless situations.

This course is 2 weeks in duration, The handler must bring a gas mask, 1 can of CS gas, 4 flash bangs, and 200 rounds of ammunition for their service weapon.

Advanced Tracking Course

Felony tracking is considered to be the most hazardous job a K-9 team can perform. This class is designed to take the tracking team to the next level in both proficiency and tactics.

The goals of the course are to teach the K-9 how to search for and locate a track and to figure out which way it goes. The ability to perform theses tasks is critical for success on the street. We will teach the handler how to read signs on the track that will assist the team in being successful. We will also teach the handler how and where to place back-up officers in order to keep all personnel as safe as possible. We will discuss the latest court cases that pertain to tracking of all types of subjects, ranging from lost citizens to hardened criminals. We will teach the handler what the dog is actually smelling while tracking and go over tests and their results that prove why the dog is doing what he does during a track.
